2 Deeds with 1 Need

Happy New Year!!! Come see Dr. Nall at Village Osteopath to optimize your health in 2014 AND knock out a large portion of your deductible the first month of the year while you’re at it! What better New Years Resolution is there than that?

We are excited to offer Genova Diagnostics testing to help you optimize your health in 2014!  This is a global specialty laboratory that we use to personalize your healthcare.  Genova Diagnostics was established in 1986 and offers more than 125 specialized diagnostic assessments. They have proven to be a leader in patient education and provide easy to read lab reports. We love that Genova Diagnostics offers online audio-visual learning modules (Webinars) to help you learn more about the test you are having done.

Not everyone realizes that a number of health conditions can be initiated or aggravated by food and environmental allergies. Symptoms can range from skin conditions, gas and bloating, sinus congestion, migraines and mood changes. You can see why determining exactly what you may be allergic to can be a key to establishing overall health. Genova offers IgE and IgG allergy testing. What’s the difference between IgE and IgG?

IgE Allergies

Immediate onset of symptoms (within minutes)

Circulating 1/2 life 1-2 days

Stimulates histamine release

Estimated 2-8% of population

IgG Allergies

Delayed onset of symptoms (2-72 hours)

Circulating 1/2 life of 21 days

Does not stimulate histamine release

Estimated 20% of population

This means, if you have an IgG allergy to something you may not have a reaction for up to 72 hours! That makes it kind of hard to pinpoint what the real problem is, doesn’t it? With Genova Diagnostics, we can test for 19 IgE food allergies, 87 IgG food allergies, 21 IgG vegitarian food allergies, 14 IgE inhalant allergies, 15 IgE mold allergies, and 24 IgG spice allergies.

We can also test for celiac disease. Celiac disease, also called gluten sensitivity enteropathy, is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing nutrients from food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.  Approximately 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. 83% of those people are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other conditions.   Celiac Webinar

Gastrointestinal function is important for general health. The intestinal tract contains significant amounts of bacteria which, when imbalanced, have been associated with IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) and IBD (Inflammatory Bowl Disease), immune disorders, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Balancing gut microflora is key for optimizing digestion and absorption of nutrients, as well as metabolic functions. Poor digestion and malabsorption can lead to immune dysfunction, malnutrition, mental/emotional disorders, and autoimmune diseases. We commonly test for H. pylori which is present in about half of the worlds population! This is a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) that infects your stomach. H.pylori is a common cause of peptic ulcers, gastritis and greatly increases your risk for gastric cancer.

This test shows us your overall nutritional status unlike any other nutritional assessment out there. NutrEval provides personalized recommendations for your exact supplementation needs for antioxidants, B vitamins, minerals. essential fatty acids, digestive support, etc. There are many more pages to this NutrEval report but I wanted to highlight a small portion to show how easy it is to understand! Click the links at the end of this newsletter to see how actual patients have applied NutrEval to their healthcare.

Here is a sample of the IgG Food Antibody Assessment. You can see that this patient has a 2+ moderate allergy to eggs as well as a 2+ moderate allergy to pinto beans. This may explain why she has a migraine the Monday after she eats her favorite Sunday breakfast, chili bean omelette 🙂

Check out these case studies that highlight actual patient’s that have utilized Genova Diagnostic testing.
