Energy Crisis? Try a B12 Injection.

End the Energy Crisis!

The election may be over, but only Village Osteopath has the real solution to ending the energy crisis! Well, at least your energy crisis. Take a quick poll: are you lacking energy? Are you experiencing muscle cramps? What about numbness or tingling? Slow reflexes?  Difficulty concentrating? Unusual mood changes? Poor sleep patterns? If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, you may have a B12 deficiency. A B12 methylcobalamin shot can help!

“I’m an insomniac, but after the (methyl)B12 shot, I slept like a baby!” –Brett, Village Osteopath Patient

Methylcobalamin vs Cyanocobalamin

Do you know the difference? If these two forms of B12 were like burgers, cyanocobalamin would be a fast food burger – cheap, easily accessible, but not the best for your body. Methylcobalamin, on the other hand, would be more like a juicy steak burger with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes – not as common, better for your body, and much more satisfying. They are both forms of cobalamin, or B12, assist the body in energy production, and are co-factors (compounds that are required for biological activity and reactions) for the production of thyroid hormones and red blood cell production. Cyanocobalamin – let’s call it c-B12 for short – has a cyanide group attached to it, whereas methylcobalamin – methyl-B – does not. This makes all the difference.

Have you had a B12 shot before? Most physicians use c-B12 because it is less expensive and the body does utilize it. However, before the body must first convert it to methyl-B before it can be used for many important functions. C-B12 is the less active form of B12, meaning it is not used in as many processes within the body. Methyl-B is a very highly reactive form of B12, and appears to be better absorbed and retained by the body. Methylcobalamin (methyl-B) is utilized in many different ways that cyanocobalamin (c-B12) is not:

  • ANTIOXIDANT: Helps your cells fight off every day toxins from the environment
  • SLEEP EASY: Methyl-B works in the process of melatonin synthesis and can help normalize your circadian rhythm/sleep cycle and improve the quality of your sleep
  • RELAXATION: Methyl-B helps regulate the release of your stress hormone (cortisol)
  • HEART HEALTHY: Methyl-B is the only form of B12 shown to lower homocysteine levels: high levels are thought to contribute to heart disease, kidney disease, underactive thyroid, and several mental diseases.

B Crazy and Give it a Shot

Village Osteopath recognizes the benefit of both forms of B12, and offer injections of either form at our office. If you’ve never had a B12 shot before, it is a quick injection typically delivered just under the skin that is over faster than you can say ‘methylcobalamin’. At Village Osteopath, the methyl-B is delivered using a very small syringe to ensure less pain but provide the patient with a 250% more concentrated active B12 dose than the typical c-B12 shot. Be sure to keep an eye out for our methyl-B12 Groupon! Not sure if the B12 shot is for you? There are other methods of supplementation. Ask Dr. Nall about having a blood serum test done to check your B12 levels, and what kind of supplement plan would work best to help you achieve your best health!
